Good morning,
Merry Christmas to all of you and your families!
While I know it is Christmas, and everyone is very busy indeed, you might be stopping in later, and I think you'll like this step by step guide of how I made this little man face.
Also, I'd like to mention, I now have a new blogspot called Cjs Clay and Art Scraps, that basically features my sculpey, past and current. Please stop by, bookmark it or follow it! I'd really appreciate it. Share it with others, too!
Back to my little man.
I hope you enjoyed this little "tutorial" of me making my little face.
When I started my new blog, my daughter asked, "Are you just going to post pictures, or are you going to show HOW to do them?" It was clear that she hoped it was the latter option. Of course, that would be much more interesting.
Now I have a lot of clay creations, and I want to feature them all. So all the older stuff will just be pictures, but my new stuff, I will give you more step by step pictures, so you can see how they progress.
What do you think?

I'll see you soon.

Have a great holiday season. I hope I hear from you!

Step 1: Fimo Soft Beige Clay.
I rolled it into a ball, and using a crochet hook needle, I dented in where I wanted the eyes, nose and mouth features to go. I also rounded his cheeks. The color is not good on this picture; sorry.
Step 2: A little more molding and smoothing.
Step 3: Continued smoothing, molding, and adding in the nose and nostrils. His nose is a little big, but I wanted him to be a character and unusual, so I was aiming for a large nose. And ... I got it!
Step 4: More smoothing and blending in of the nose, and reshaping eyes and mouth.
Step 5: Continuing with the molding and shaping, making it smooth as I go.
Step 6: Adding the eyes. I rolled out two, same size round white balls of clay. I dropped them in the eye sockets and tapped them in gently. I rolled out 2 little black balls for pupils and gently tapped them in.
Step 7: Taking more of the beige clay, in very small rolled thin amounts, I begin building up the eyes, lids, and under eye area. Smooth, shaping, blending as I go. I add wrinkles at each eye, and brows over each eye.
Step 8: I finish smoothling, blending, creasing. I work on the mouth and overall face. I grind some pastel chalks into powder, and appy to lids, cheeks, nose, forehead, chin, and mouth.
I bake him in my little oven and let cool. When he comes out, he looks like this,
Step 9. I added a little coloring to his mouth area. Using a white gel thin point pen, I put twinkles in his eyes. He's ready for his debut.
Ok ... now how do I want to present him? This is just plain kleenex, wrapped around him, and I dropped his little head inside. (Sorry, buddy!)
He looks like a monk ... or maybe even Joseph ... at the birth of his baby! That would certainly fit today.
Doesn't he look just charming?
YES! You do!
Now here you are, little man. My, my, but you are so small!!!
This is the color closest to his actual coloring, and of course, you can see he is about the size of a quarter.
From here, I can add ears, hair, back of his head, if I wish. He could become a little doll, or I could put him on a pendant to wear.
Since my daughter and my grandkids were out of town for Christmas/my oldest granddaughter is spending Christmas and this week with her dad in TN, and my middle son and his wife live currently in Boston, I decided to send them a picture of my final steps, and here it is. I also sent it to my son and his financee who were here in Columbus.
They are used to these crazy antics of their mom.
I spoke to my son in Boston, and he and his lovely wife are ready to make a big move to CA. Good luck to you both!
Here is a face pendant that I did recently. I just love this one.
Her face was started with a store-purchased mold, but I always change them in some little way ... to make them my own.
The leaf is red and green with white gel ink lines for the veins. The pendant is ready to slip onto a gold chain or a silky, and away she will go!
Take a minute to check out some of my other sculpeys, here. This menu will take you to the individual postings!
